Jozef Gertli Danglár

Jozef Gertli, better known by his pseudonym Danglár, has Central Slovak roots. He was born in Detva in 1962. He studied at the Secondary School of Arts (ŠUPka) in Bratislava. After a few years working various jobs and serving two years in the military at the Czech-Slovak-German borders, he was finally admitted to the Academy of Fine Arts (VŠVU). He managed to study under excellent teachers Brunovský and Lebiš and to survive a revolutionary period at the academy, which allowed him to focus on his favorite genre—comics. However, he no longer dedicates much time to it because it’s a tough discipline. He has held over 20 solo exhibitions. In the last 15 years, he has mainly exhibited canvases where he plays with his favorite comic and film characters. The more recognizable part of his work, however, consists of illustrations that “adorn” covers of over 50 book titles in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. (source)
