Matyáš Namai (*1993) studied graphic design at a secondary school of advertising and artistic creation, during which he focused primarily on comics. At the beginning of his career, he contributed his comics to magazines such as ABC and Playboy. Later, he collaborated with Tom Taylor on graphic novels for Wild Cat Studio, publishers Albatros Media and Dobrovský.
Among his significant projects is the adaptation of 1984: A Graphic Novel, which has become the best-selling graphic novel in history and is distributed worldwide. Another project is the documentary graphic novel Chernobyl: The Fall of Atomgrad, which was named one of the best graphic novels of 2024 by The Guardian.
Matyáš Namai spoke about his work at the BRaK x Panel 2025 festival during the presentation of “Chernobyl: The Fall of Atomgrad,” where we gained insight into his creative process. He also participated in the Drawing Battle between two groups of our artists.

Chernobyl: The Fall of Atomgrad
Matyáš presented his comic Chernobyl: The Fall of Atomgrad, in which he analyzes the tragic consequences of the Chernobyl disaster. The story reveals the mistakes and decisions that led to the tragedy and focuses on the fates of the power plant staff, firefighters, families, and residents of the surrounding area.
