VŠVU – studio of illustration

The exhibition consists of short comics created by students of the Illustration and Printmaking Studio at VŠVU Bratislava during the current summer semester. The individual comics were produced as part of the anthology Murmur (murmuring, whispering), whose title refers to the collectivity of the work and the various artistic approaches of the students. Each comic’s theme is a dictionary term, which the authors interpret in a transferred or metaphorical sense. This creates a diversity of stories as well as artistic styles.

Another part of the exhibition is a series of six posters-prints on the theme of Flow, which resulted from reflections on contemporary comic art. The participating students responded to the theme in different ways, both visually and conceptually. The main theme was a play based on comic language, including different handling of panels and storytelling. The graphic techniques vary from monotype to silkscreen. The authors worked within the constraints of the format and conveyed their narratives without using words or comic balloons, relying solely on visual elements.
